What’s the best city for anyone in cybersecurity? It’s got to be one of those sexy coastal tech hubs, like New York or San Francisco, right?

It’s Minneapolis.

That’s just one of the surprises found in Indeed’s list of the top 15 cities for cybersecurity experts. By ranking popular tech job search destinations by “the real value of an information security specialist’s salary,” Indeed was able to adjust salaries by the city’s cost-of-living with data at the Bureau of Economic Analysis (BEA), a move that reveals the true value of all the cybersecurity jobs.

Here are the important cities, from best to “worst, but still pretty great”:

San Francisco
Salt Lake City
New York
San Jose
San Diego
Washington, DC
Los Angeles

Other surprises available from this data: New York barely cracks the top ten, thanks to high cost-of-living, but San Francisco is still in the top three, so I assume cybersecurity jobs pay a massive amount there. Also, my hometown of Seattlehome of the slogan “say WA”—is doing well for itself.

Check out the full chart below for extra information on the difference between the adjusted and unadjusted salaries, as well as the gap between the highest salary and the second highest located in each city.
