Wyncode joins nationwide tech education companies to announce the creation of a new trade organization with the mission to establish best practices and create accountability for coding schools. The Miami-based coding school joins App Academy, Dev Bootcamp, Flatiron School, General Assembly, Galvanize, Hackbright Academy, Hack Reactor, MakerSquare and Turing School are now part of the New Economy Skills Training Association (NESTA).
As part of their commitment, NESTA wrote a letter to President Obama outlining their commitment to publish outcomes on an annual basis and have them verified by third-party CPAs.
This news comes just days after President Obama announced his TechHire initiative, including a new campaign to work with communities to get more Americans rapidly trained for well-paying technology jobs.
In a public statement, The White House explained that TechHire’s call to action is to empower Americans with the skills they need, through universities and community colleges but also nontraditional approaches like “coding bootcamps,” and high-quality online courses that can rapidly train workers for a well-paying job. Wyncode has successfully taught South Florida developers how to code through a 9-week program.
“Wyncode is extremely excited to be part of the founding group of code schools behind NESTA,” Wyncode’s co-founder Juha Mikkola said. “We are focused on student outcomes and share in the vision of other leading code schools to track these in a consistent and transparent manner. We hope that this movement will make it easier for students to identify which programs are truly effective at placing them into the workforce in relevant junior web developer positions.”
NESTA’s first initiative is to develop and agree on a standardized outcomes reporting methodology. The organization is committed to establishing standards for publishing completion and employment outcomes. NEST organizations are welcome to apply for NESTA membership here: http://thenesta.org.
