Feeling so fly like a G6 is now as easy as tapping on your smartphone.
The Boca Raton-based startup JetSmarter recently launched a new app that allows flyers to book a seat on a private jet from their smartphones. Just like using Uber to get a ride, but on a private plane.
Now, you (well, probably your personal assistant) only have to worry about the champagne and fabulous destination. There is no need for the paperwork and money exchange that comes with chartering a private plane.
According to JetSmarter founder and CEO Sergey Petrossov, users have access to over 3,000 private aircrafts all over the world. They choose the plane, amenities, insurance, and safety information, and book easily.
“Those 3,000 aircrafts on our app are controlled by vendors. We connect with these certified air carriers directly through their scheduling system, so when you are going through our app, you are looking at real-time inventory,” said Petrossov in a recent interview in Bloomberg.
JetSmarter offers a more cost-effective option for an “empty leg,” available when the plane still has to return to its home airport after it’s been chartered for a one-way flight.
“There is a lot of empty capacity in the industry. Often times the air carriers are willing to give those seats away for [the cost] of the fuel,” explains Petrossov.
Needless to say, the wealthiest population benefits most from this app, making the chartering of a private plane seamless. However, with the number of empty leg flights available, the company hopes to reach a wider user base, especially in the business sector.
“What we are probably going to see in the next five years is a lot more airline-type companies come into play, where there are not going to be owners behind the airplanes but owned and operated fleets because they are going to put so many hours in these planes because of technology like mine,” says Petrossov.
