If you’re a parent, you know that time has a way of flying by as you watch your kids grow up. Thanks to a whole new world of high-quality smartphone cameras and creative photo-sharing apps, recording and enjoying those fleeting moments is easy and fun. We’ve come a long way from the low-resolution Polaroid snaps and frenetically filmed Super 8 movies of days past.
23Snaps is one of the major players in the family-friendly photo app world. The London-based company was founded just last year, by Ivailo Jordanov and Yury Tereschenko, but it has gained ground quickly. The app has over 250,000 registered users worldwide and has been selected as one of the top apps for parents by Loved By Parents Awards, featured in Apple’s exclusive Apps for Parents collection, and featured in Mother & Baby as a top app for moms.
23Snaps works like this: Users set up profiles for their children within the app, allowing only the people they select to have posting privileges. They can upload photos, enter growing-up metrics like height, and make status updates to record special moments in their children’s lives. This content shows up in the news feeds of those who have sharing privileges.
23Snaps solves the problem of oversharing, which often happens when parents become overzealous in their posting on places like Facebook. Of course, we all agree that your two-year-old is nothing short of adorable when he wears his bowl of spaghetti on his head like a hat, but do we really need to see 50 photos of it in our News Feed? Now, parents can share as much as they want to on 23Snaps, where only those people most interested in your childrens’ antics can enjoy it.
As someone who is smack-dab in the middle of life before and after kids, I can see the value in an app like 23Snaps. A couple of years ago, I grew tired of my Facebook feed looking like a Sesame Street reel, but now that my husband and I are preparing to become parents ourselves, I truly enjoy getting a glimpse of life with kids via my friends’ Facebook posts. Of course, my younger friends might still enjoy surfing pictures of exotic trips and wild nights out, rather than play dates and wild nights – in an entirely different context – in.
If you’ve already ventured into parenthood, you can check out the app for yourself. 23snaps is available for free on the iPhone, iPad, Android, Windows 8 and Web at www.23snaps.com
