If you’re reading a post about cheapest coworking options, that probably means you don’t have much money to spare. So why spend even an extra $100 or so on coworking?
For your mental health. $200 a month may seem like a fortune for a bootstrapping startup, but that means you just need to be a fraction more productive for it to be worth it. What’s the chance of you making a connection, meeting someone who knows someone, or feeling energized enough to work a few extra hours thanks to your coworking space? I’d say pretty high.
To find the cheapest coworking options, we looked at the seven most popular cities for coworking on 42floors’s office space rental site. Then, we threw in two more cities where we have Tech Cocktail members on the ground: Miami and Las Vegas. We were looking for the cheapest option that gives you full-month access (not a restricted number of days). Prices are per person.
Boston: The Collaboratory ($200/month)
The Collaborators on the Curve membership includes first-come, first-served access to seats on a curved bar. Amenities include free Starbucks coffee and free movie theater popcorn. For $300/month, you can upgrade to the Flex membership and sit at any open desk. Flex Collaborators get one weekly ticket to Brown Bag Lunches, where successful entrepreneurs share their stories. Located in the South End, the Collaboratory is focused on supporting women-owned businesses.
Chicago: Platform ($200/month)
A Flex membership at Platform comes with a shared desk and 24/7 access. It’s only available at their Ravenswood location, which also features a shared patio and free coffee.
Las Vegas: The Window (Free)
Located in The Ogden, the Downtown Project’s The Window offers free coworking with wifi from Monday-Friday, 9 am to 5 pm.
Los Angeles: LAX Coworking ($60/month)
This “unpretentious” office space shared with the LAX Chamber of Commerce has all the essentials: wifi, a conference room, and free coffee. They claim to have the best rates in town, and I believe it!
Miami: Miami Shared ($195/month)
A Gold Membership at Miami Shared gives you a receptionist, unlimited conference room use, and free lockers. When you’re in a slump, you can grab some free coffee or check out some of the events going on there.
New York City: DUMBO Startup Lab ($249/month)
A Community Membership includes access to shared workspaces and lounges. The 2,300-square-foot loft in Brooklyn features free coffee and tea, 24/7 access, and entry to events, panels, and meetups.
San Francisco: SpherePad ($199/month)
A Community membership at SpherePad includes a shared desk in their open coworking area from 9 am to 6 pm, Monday-Friday. The price reduces to $179/month for 6 months or $149/month for 12 months. Memberships come with a free Zipcar membership, discounted yoga classes, member-only events, and the requisite foosball table. SpherePad has two locations in the North Beach neighborhood.
Seattle: Surf Incubator ($50/month)
A Café Membership gets you access to the cafe space, events, and free coffee to boot. That space is open Monday-Friday from 9 am to 5 pm. The price reduces even more if you buy three months ($130) or six months ($250).
Washington, DC: The Hive ($100/month)
An Affiliate Membership at The Hive gives you 24/7 access to the common area and four hours of conference room time per month. Located in the Anacostia neighborhood of southeast DC, the Hive also hosts workshops and networking events.
