How many times have you watched a loved one open a gift that you spent hours (or, um, minutes) picking out and wrapping, only to see disappointment flash on their face before they remember that it’s the thought that counts? Kind of a sucky feeling.
Baltimore-based startup NoBadGift wants to replace that feeling of failure with one of triumph. This platform allows you to create a universal “wishlist” for any day or event so that your friends and family know exactly what you want. They can either buy it for you or make a contribution towards an item. On the day of the event, all the money that has been contributed goes into your PayPal account.
Founded by long-time friends and developers McKeever (Mac) Conwell, II, Michael P. Washington, and Sam Henry, their first startup relieves the stress of gift giving with a lot of built-in flexibility – you can access wishlists from a computer, mobile device, and at the event itself.
Proving that your startup idea doesn’t need to be complex – it just needs to solve a basic need – Conwell explained why they started NoBadGift: “Our co-founder Mike had partnered with his sibling to get his father an iPad for Christmas one year and though it be cool if you could pitch in with other people for gifts. From there, he linked up with myself and Sam and it was coding every night from there.”
Conwell added that the biggest surprise so far about the startup life is how easy it is to work crazy hours chasing your dream. “When your so passionate about something it is so easy to put your all into it. The feeling of seeing your startup come to life is amazing. That, and how vibrant of a startup scene there is in Baltimore. I never knew so much was going on right in my home town, and it’s really cool to now be a part of that.”
