Leadership In Business Starts With You

If you hang out with entrepreneur and entertainer Nick Cannon long enough, there’s is bound to be some great advice on leadership. At the Chase for Business Conference in New York, he didn’t disappoint.

“To be a good leader, first you need to know how to follow.”

It’s hard to argue with that. As a representative of Chase Ink, it’s hard not to be overwhelmed by the amount of helpful information and advice being dolled out by celebrities, investors, and founders from around the world. And Nick Cannon was no different:

“The best leaders understand how to take heat, and understand the people they are leading.”

Cofounders Danielle DuBoise and Whitney Tingle of Sakara Life shared their journey about building a company that delivers organic meals to your door nationwide. They believe that:

“Food is medicine.”

The team followed their passion when creating their business. As a leader, passion carries over in the way you lead and the decisions you make. By being true to yourself and following your passion, you’ll be more likely to inspire employees and followers alike. This is how they spread their brand so quickly and changed lives in the process.

“You are what you do the majority of the time.”

Jamie Dimon, CEO of JPMorgan Chase, also joined the stage to share some leadership advice, as well as his personal views on America.

“America has the best dealt hand of anyone, ever, today.”

Dimon also explained that large and small are filled with internal issues. He stressed the importance of squashing office politics. He shared:

“Meetings are a sign of office politics.”

Finally, the most important thing to remember about leadership is that it starts with you. You’re the only person that can make people follow you through your actions, your passion, and your commitment to your company. Jamie Dimon believes you need to:

“Get organized. Take care of your mind, body, spirit, family, & your soul.”

Some great life advice, that should help you be a better leader too.
