Mobile First Development is Shifting Paradigms

Think for a minute about all the different services you used that are based in a web application. Brady Forrest, VP of Highway1, and Matt Galligan, founder of Circa, asked us this question at this year’s Tech Cocktail Celebrate Conference during their fireside chat.

We might use a few web-based apps here and there, but the majority we use are mobile first. According to Forrest and Galligan, entrepreneurs who don’t optimize for mobile first are doing it wrong.

They focused on highlighting Galligan’s Circa app, a news consumption platform, over how people used to read the newspaper. These days it’s all about consuming information while waiting in line at Starbucks, the DMV, or even at a stop light: it’s become something we need to have quickly.

Building for the mobile-first might be inevitable, and it’s a challenge because it’s a complete paradigm shift. However, the two entrepreneurs are rooted firmly in their belief that it’s the way of the future.
