A hotly-rumored new Nokia phone is on the way, packing an unprecedented five rear cameras. According to newly-leaked details, the phone is to be called the Nokia 9 Pureview, and some initial images have emerged.
Thanks to leaked renders of the phone and some snazzy-looking cases designed for it, the five-camera rumors seem to be confirmed.
The images show the five cameras, plus a flash and depth-sensing unit arranged in a hexagon, with one sensor in the middle.
According to MySmartPrice.com, which surfaced the rumours, the phone will be called the Nokia 9 PureView and is scheduled to debut next month.
What Is the Nokia 9 PureView?
The Nokia 9 PureView is the latest contender in the cameraphone arms race, sporting five rear cameras, plus a single front snapper.
The renders seem to suggest it will feature a glass rear with a metal frame, aping the design of many flagship models. HMD, Nokia’s parent company, has also certified two wireless chargers in recent months, which would make sense given the glass rear.
Leaked information also suggests that the phone will be running Android 9 Pie, the latest version of Google’s mobile operating system. Specifications are harder to pin down for the new device, although we can see from the renders that there is no visible fingerprint sensor on the phone. This might mean it is using an in-display scanner, similar to that found on the new OnePlus 6T.
There is, fortunately, a cut-out on the top of the cases, suggesting that there will be a 3.5mm headphone jack.
When Does the Nokia 9 PureView Go On Sale?
MySmartPrice has also claimed that the Nokia 9 PureView will make its first public outing on the December 5 at a launch event in Dubai.
The site is also expecting Nokia to launch another phone, rumoured to be called the Nokia X7, at this event.
Nokia has previously made customers wait a while to buy its phones after making their public debuts at trade shows such as Mobile World Congress (MWC). However, this new incarnation of Nokia phone has been around for a while now, so we’d expect to see the new phones on sale shortly after the event.
Should I Buy the Nokia 9 PureView?
With no word on price, it’s difficult to say whether this is a phone you should hold out for. However, the novelty of having the world’s first five camera phone will certainly endear it to some users.
It’s also unclear how it will stack up to the competition. We’ve previously seen Huawei phones with three rear cameras and two front lenses, plus Samsung phones with four rear-mounted lenses and a single front camera.
But quantity does not guarantee quality. The Google Pixel 3, for example, has arguably the best camera on the market, and manages this with just a single lens.
It’s likely that the Nokia 9 PureView will rival the OnePlus 6T and maybe the Honor View 10 for both price and specs.
If you can’t wait until December 5 to find out whether the Nokia 9 PureView will, indeed, have the greatest phone camera ever, take a look at the best cheap smartphones.
