New startups are continuing to crop up throughout the country, there are a few skills that are beginning to fall to the wayside to place emphasis on technical skills. And although it’s important to be tech-savvy in today’s tech consumer market, there is one skill that is being heavily neglected – and it could be costing businesses billions of dollars per year.
So what exactly is this skill that’s not only holding back companies but billions of dollars in revenue? It’s poor writing skills.
When looking at the framework for most companies, it’s no wonder that poor writing skills are prominent on all of their related content. A very low percentage of company resources are spent towards content creation, and it’s been reported that as much as $3.1 billion is spent on remedial writing training, according to CollegeBoard. Of that amount, $2.9 billion is spent on current employees instead of new hires.
This issue goes beyond the business climate, but rather, it reflects the misconceptions that people have regarding how important quality content creation is to business success. Employers are becoming more proactive with weeding out poor writers during the hiring process, but this isn’t enough. 50 percent of respondents take writing into consideration when hiring, and 80 percent of corporations consider writing when taking on new hires.
Taking quality writing skills into consideration is paramount for businesses to find success. Content creation helps bring on readers and potential consumers to your brand, as well as establishing your voice within the industry. By neglecting the importance of this skill, you could be setting yourself up for doing your brand a disservice.
By simply placing more of an emphasis on building this skill and cultivating your specific voice online, you could begin establishing your authority and setting your company up for long-term success.
