Uber, a company with no interest in becoming stagnant, has just announced the launch of a new service that will start in New York City next week.
UberEVENTS will be available for event planners to pre-order rides for their guests. The service will be available first for select riders and Uber Business users, but they plan to open it up to all customers in NYC in the coming weeks. The goal is to make the logistics of planning transportation for large groups as seamless as ordering an individual Uber ride.
“When planning a company happy hour, client appreciation dinner, or even upcoming nuptials, there is a lot that goes into ensuring that your event goes off without a hitch—including how your guests can safely get to and from without any fuss,” Uber Senior Marketing Manager Kimiko Ninomiya wrote on Uber’s blog. “We want to make the experience of planning transportation logistics as seamless as ordering a ride at the touch of button.”

And don’t worry about paying for unused rides or guests taking advantage of the code. Uber has thought of almost every eventuality, such as:
- Guests will pay for any charges with their default payment option that exceed the value of the guest pass that you’ve purchased.
- You’re only charged for rides that are used. After your event ends, you’ll receive a refund for any unused guest passes and for any amount not used on a specific guest pass.
- When your guest pass is active, it will automatically apply to your next ride.
Uber may not have yet figured out how to bring the party to you (don’t worry, I’m sure they’ll launch that service within the next year), but for now they can at least bring you to the party. The big question is whether they will deliver food to your party too.
