Hold on to your hats, comic book fans, because Amazon Publishing today announced a new imprint focused 100 percent on comic books and graphic novels: Jet City Comics. And they have partnered with some of the best sci-fi and fantasy authors out there, including George R.R. Martin, Hugh Howey, and Neal Stephenson.
Paralleling the Jet City Comic announcement, Amazon Publishing is releasing Symposium #1, the first original Foreworld comic from Stephenson. Additionally, Martin’s short story Meathouse Man and Howey’s sci-fi novel Wool are slated for an October 2013 release.
“Millions of fans have read and loved these novels,” says senior editor of Jet City Comics, Alex Carr, in the press release. “We are working with a hand-picked team of comics professionals, writers, artists, and translators, who are developing and expanding these inventive stories, and we look forward to opening up these iconic worlds to new audiences.”
Jet City Comics has an incredible lineup of comics for publishing over the course of 2013 as they try to make a mark in an industry long dominated by DC and Marvel. Perhaps one of the greatest assets they have going for them, aside from George R.R. Martin’s now mainstream popularity, is the host of Amazon users who utilize Kindle services.
To cast a wide net, everything published by Jet City is available on the Kindle or in print version. Following typical comic book form, they will release standalone issues, serialized comic episodes, and bundled graphic novels as well on Amazon or at comic book retailers.
