Gateway city: one of your best and brightest, Yurbuds, has just been acquired by Harman Industries Incorporated for a yet undisclosed amount. Harman Industries is heralded as the leading global infotainment and audio group, and this is a major win for both the city of St. Louis and Yurbuds.
Since 2008 Yurbuds has been developing in-ear and behind-the-ear headphones specifically for athletes. Currently, you can buy Yurbuds in 19,000 points of sale including big box general merchandise retailers, sporting goods retailers, and over 750 active lifestyle specialty retailers.
“The talented – and athletic – management team at Yurbuds has helped drive the acceleration of the fast-growing niche of sports headphones and wearables, with best in class design and a rich pipeline of future innovations to enhance the athlete experience,” says Dinesh C. Paliwal, HARMAN Chairman, President and CEO. “We see exciting opportunities to leverage the technologies, brands, and distribution systems from our organizations to develop the next generation of headphones designed specifically for athletes.”
Yurbuds holds an extensive intellectual property portfolio that includes more than 60 patents and 70 trademarks for design and technology around headphones and wearables. Given that, it’s no wonder Harman Industries wanted to get on the Yurbud train.
