Wrapify Wins Best Pitch at EvoNexus Fall 2015 Demo Day

Every six months I get an invitation from the folks at EvoNexus to head up to the Rady School of Management at UCSD for their demo day. Honestly, it’s one of my favorite startup events to attend in San Diego for a number of reasons.

Chief among those reasons is that CEO Rory Moore and his beyond dedicated team always know how to set the perfect ambiance. EvoNexus Demo Day events strike a fine balance between business and play: even though there’s a cohort of big name companies, investors, and key influencers in the crowd, the quintessential SoCal vibe is ever present. I know for a fact that it’s a reason a lot of other people love attending the event as well.

Last night EvoNexus was proud to showcase their group of 10 startup founders who have completed an initial four month stay at the incubator and met the rigorous challenges set before them. These companies have focused their efforts on creating a minimum sellable product, validating their market, and providing a business model to potential customers.

Obviously a big part of that process is honing a perfect pitch so that when Demo Day comes around they can showcase the tremendous feats they’ve all accomplished. Any entrepreneur who makes it to Demo Day and successfully pitches their company has my respect: it’s not an easy thing to do.

Regardless, at the end of the night all of us in the crowd got to vote for who we thought had the best pitch. Here are the 10 companies who pitched at the Fall 2015 Demo Day and the best pitch winner:

  • AstroPrint – Drew Taylor: AstroPrint is the Android and Google Play for the 3D printing industry.

AstroPrint

  • CollectiveSun – Lee Barken: Solar financing for nonprofits using crowd-lending.

The team at EvoNexus were all wearing shirts last night with a sentence on the back: “The fastest way to launch your startup”. They’re not kidding – EvoNexus is unlike any other incubator you’ll come across in the US. They take no equity from incubating companies, ask for no fees, and all of the office space is 100 percent subsidized. If you’re interested in joining their ranks of successful startups, make sure to take advantage of the open applications before August 31.

As I walked back to my car, the sun was setting over the hills of La Jolla and I thought I’d take a quick photo for you guys. It was the perfect moment to round out yet another dazzling night, thanks to the hardworking folks at EvoNexus. If you’re interested, here‘s the full photo album EvoNexus captured last night.
