Foodspotting Acquired By OpenTable On It’s Third Birthday

OpenTable Acquires Foodspotting

Foodspotting, the app that caught so many people’s attention for creating a new place to share all those photos of food that we are consuming, announced today on its blog that it has been acquired by OpenTable for $10 million. Since the launch of the app in 2010, it has catalogued over three million dishes, and has been integrating with OpenTable by allowing users to book restaurant reservations from the application. So it seems like an obvious next step to have team.

OpenTable’s CEO Matt Roberts had to this to say about the acquisition:

“We’re proud to welcome the talented Foodspotting team to the OpenTable family. The Foodspotting team is as passionate about dining as we are, and we’re looking forward to leveraging their unique expertise in the areas of imagery and social sharing to enrich the OpenTable experience for diners and restaurants in new and exciting ways. By adding more visually compelling content to help people decide where to dine and discover dishes they’ll love, we hope to make it even easier to find the perfect table for any occasion.”

Alexa Andrzejewski, Co-founder and Chief Executive Officer of Foodspotting, who will be joiningOpenTable as a lead user interface designer, shared her excitement in saying:

“We’re so happy to have found a home for Foodspotting where our community can continue to thrive while our entire team continues to focus on creating great dining experiences.”

Aside from the news of the acquisition, it also happens to be Foodspotting’s third birthday – happy birthday Foodspotting and congratulations on your new table home.
