With mobile tech continuing to change how we engage and interact, we are seeing an increasing number of startups whose primary purpose is founded on socially-conscious principles. Whether it’s providing consumers the opportunity to donate to their chosen charities directly from their phones, or giving business the ability to easily give back to the community, check out how these 12 social good apps are helping to improve our world.

Budge

Budge is an app that capitalizes on our innate propensity to engage in challenges with our friends/peers, and leverages that into an opportunity to give back to social causes. Whether it’s challenging your friend to a simple game of chess or towards reaching a certain health goal, the person who ends up failing the challenge must make a donation towards a charity of the winner’s choosing.

Charity Miles

Previously covered on Tech.Co as a top health app to help you lose weight, Charity Miles is an app that tracks the miles you’ve accumulated on your run, walk, bike ride, or whatever other activity, and raises money money for a charitable organization of your choosing. Currently, the company works with more than 30 global charities.

CureSearch CancerCare

Mobileys winner CureSearch CancerCare strengthens the connection between patient and care team.  The app advances parents' ability to share crucial information and reports on their child's information.

eGood

egood

When mobile users open the eGood app to check-in at eGood-affiliated businesses, companies donate one, three, or five percent of all eGood sales to the charity of their choice.

FoodShare

Developed by college students, FoodShare donates a meal to someone in need each time a user dines at one of their partnered restaurants.  FoodShare won the Peoples’ Choice prize at The Mobileys 2015 competition.

Givvr

While ads can be annoying to bear, watching them to serve a social good feels infinitely less painful. Givvr’s app lets users raise money for notable nonprofits by simply watching corporate-sponsored videos. Notable nonprofits include Pencils of Promise and Action Against Hunger.

Instead

Instead is a mobile app that increases both awareness of social issues, as well as encourages micro-donations towards such social issues. The app shows you how much money you can save from minor changes in your lifestyle (such as brewing your coffee instead of buying coffee), and hopefully using that saved money towards micro-donations.

Recyclebank

Recyclebank’s app encourages continued recycling efforts by rewarding users with points that they can use toward local deals and discounts that can be redeemed at nearby participating locations or within the app itself.

Shout for Good

Shout for Good offers a simple-to-use app that gives users the ability to easily make micro-donations to the nonprofit(s) of their choice.

Social Impact App

Social Impact lets mobile users easily discover local businesses, stores, and restaurants that are run on socially-conscious, sustainable practices.

SPROKIT, a Mobileys winner,  is a mobile app that provides general information about what is expected of probationers and parolees, especially mandatory events that will help them successfully complete their prison sentence.

WoofTrax

WoofTrax allows you to support your local/favorite animal rescue organization simply through tracking your everyday walks – the more you walk, the more money raised towards a donation for your chosen animal organization.
