The image of the “perfect” man or woman is all in the eye of the beholder, but over the last few decades online digital editing and manipulation of photographs has altered the perceptions of what a normal, healthy human body might look like. A new website, Herself.com, founded by Australian actress Caitlin Stasey, 24, has launched to combat these perceptions and “help women reclaim their bodies”.
“WOMEN ARE FUCKING DURABLE & POWERFUL.” – Caitlin Stasey
According to the site, Herself.com is designed by women for women, aiming to empower women of all shapes, sexualities, gender identities and ethnicities. How? Raw, honest sharing and storytelling. The simple website is focused on interviewing women about their lives, sexuality and bodies in a written Q&A format with each interview also including nude images of the interviewee. These are not the kind of photos that you might see in Maxim or Playboy, but more artistically captured, nude images. Just launched, the site has already caught people’s attention as a place online for women to share their stories and help empower other women to do the same, without having to worry about a river of trolls polluting a comment thread (not that nasty comments about the stories can’t be found in other social forums). Read through the interviews and scroll through the photos at herself.com and you’ll get a good sense of what this site is all about. And if you are interested in participating in an interview to be featured on the site, you can submit your info to be considered for the project.
