While there are logistics companies out there prioritizing sustainability, it’s certainly not a mainstream topic for the industry at the moment.
Our 2025 Sustainability report focuses on the backseat position sustainability has taken over the past few months, as logistics businesses tackle with more immediate issues, such as the workplace shortage and increasing costs.
We collected over 1,500 responses from a range of indstry experts over a five-month period, in order to create a comprehensive, multi-faceted report that shines a light on the industry’s biggest pain points and priorities.
Tech.co Sustainability in Logistics Report 2025: Key Findings
Here are some of our key findings into sustainability within the logistics industry. Make sure to download the full report for more insights like these.
- Only 7-11% of businesses noted sustainability as a top priority in 2025
- 43% of businesses stated that reducing idle time is the sustainability initiative receiving the most attention
- In August, only 13% of businesses were trialing electric vehicles
Sustainability is Only a Priority To Keep Costs Down
Sustainability has consistently ranked low amongst the top priorities for logistics businesses, with only 7% to 11% of businesses noting it as a primary priority in 2025. Other issues such as vehicle upkeep (19-23%) and financial pressure (16-21%) have appeared more pertinent.
Of the businesses who are prioritizing sustainability, they are doing it out of a desire to cut costs, rather than save the planet. While a significant number of professionals are aiming to reduce idle time (43%) and optimize routes (40%), after that, there is a huge drop off in the number of businesses adopting sustainable initiatives.
The Cost Factor of Sustainability
If you look at the most popular sustainability measures from our research, you’ll find it’s those that can positively impact the bottom line. Route optimization and fuel efficiency are by far the biggest investment areas.

Interest in Electric Vehicles Has Waned
In April, 42% of businesses said that trialing electric vehicles (EVs) was their primary focus when it comes to sustainability. However, since then, the numbers around EVs have dropped significantly. By August, only 13% of businesses were trialing the technology.
Legislation appears to be playing a big role here. New rules such as the English language proficiency requirements and repealed EV mandates are making businesses think twice about their interest in green technology, and this could very well end up shifting the future of the industry.

Tech.co: Who Are We and Where Did This Report Come From?
Tech.co is a global media brand with a focus on B2B technology. We cover a broad range of business technologies, from white collar solutions like website builders, project management tools, or CRM platforms to blue collar tech solutions like field service, asset tracking, and fleet management.
For our most recent project — a series of 7 reports covering the key dynamics of the logistics sector across most of 2025 so far — we opted for multi-faceted in-depth research that combined three core data sources.
First, we included the results from a Pulse tracker survey we’ve been running every month since April 2025. Our 1,582 responses include logistics professionals from ground-level staffers to senior management.
Second, we used our BenchmarkMe Survey data, which tracked 840 responses from purchase-decision makers discussing their technology priorities. Finally, we conducted direct interviews with a selection of industry leaders, for added context.
