Our pick of the bunch would be the Fire HD 8, as in this Prime Day sale, it’s only five bucks more than the basic Fire 7, and it’s worth spending that little bit more for the better quality screen and speakers you’ll get with the Fire HD 8.
Amazon Fire 7 – This tablet by Amazon is notable for its price tag – it’s one of the cheapest brand name tablets out there, and that’s before Prime day. There’s no doubt that this thing is an absolute bargain if you just want a small tablet and don’t care too much about screen resolution or pure power. Sadly, there are no active deals on the Fire 7 this Prime Day.
Amazon Fire HD 8 – The 8-inch Fire is our pick of the bunch, as it manages to balance both power and price at the same time. It has a faster processor and more RAM than the 7-inch model, and of course, a slightly larger, and HD, screen, which should make for more comfortable Netflix binges in bed. At $44.99, this is a great deal.
Amazon Fire HD 8 Plus – This model is essentially the standard HD 8 model, but with more RAM (3GB instead of 2GB). While this makes it slightly ‘snappier’ when navigating the interface, we don’t actually think the difference will be that noticeable to the average user, so we recommend sticking with the standard HD 8 and saving a few bucks.
Amazon Fire HD 10 – The largest tablet that Amazon offers, the HD 10 has a ten-inch screen, as well as higher resolution and a more powerful processor, although it still has the same 2GB RAM as the standard Fire HD 8. This is the one to go for if you want power and a larger screen, but don’t want, or can’t afford to buy, an iPad. It’s nowhere near like for like, but in the Amazon range, it’s as close as you’ll get. Today, you can grab it with a $70 discount, for $79.99.
Amazon Fire HD 10 Plus – The Fire HD 10 Plus has some small updates over the regular HD 10 Plus, though we’re not convinced those upgrades are worth the $30 price bump. You get 4GB of RAM, rather than 3GB and it gets wireless charging. You can pick the HD 10 Plus up with a $70 discount for $109.99.

Should You Buy an Amazon Fire Tablet?
Amazon’s Fire tablets are great — and a helluva lot cheaper than many Android rivals (not to mention iPads). And, on Prime Day 2020, you can get all of Amazon’s Fire tablets even cheaper. We know, it seems crazy, but Amazon will let you have some of the Fire tablets for almost half price.

If you’re new to Fire tablets, you’ll be pleased to hear that while they run a variation of the Android operating system, you’ll find all apps you’re used to with other Android tablets or iPads.
There’s still an Amazon sheen to it all – you’ll find plenty of pushes towards Prime TV or Kindle book downloads.
You can also get some Fire tablets with ‘Special Offers,’ which are even cheaper than standard. But, you have to put up with some full-screen Amazon adverts on your lock screen in return.
Amazon also makes a great range of kid-specific tablets called, imagintavely, the Fire Tablet Kids Edition. They’re still great value though, given that they’re basically the same as the regular Fire tablets, but with some kid-proof features:

Looking to buy a tablet for your kids? The deals have already begun, with Amazon cutting the prices on its ‘Kids Edition’ Fire tablet range. There are three models to choose from:
Fire 7 Kids Edition Tablet – the most basic model, with a non-HD screen. It’s the cheapest of the range, and while it’s usually $99.99, you can get it today for just $59.99 – and that’s with the two-year guarantee that all the Kids Fire tablets come with.
Fire 7 Kids Pro Tablet – The 7 Kids Pro provides small changes to the regular 7 Kids to make it more usable for school-aged kids. For example, rather than having hand-picked sites on the web browser, the 7 Pro has wider, but still filtered, access to the internet. It also allows access to the Amazon Digital Store. This Prime Day, you can get it for $59.99 rather than $99.99.
Fire HD 8 Kids Edition Tablet – probably the best in-between model to go for. Though not as large as the 10-inch tablet, the screen is good quality and the price is much lower. Again, the regular non-kids version is cheaper, still. Today it’s $79.99, compared to the usual $139.99.
Fire HD 8 Kids Pro – Like the HD 7 Kids Pro, the HD 8 Kids Pro providers access to the internet and digital store with the same bigger screen and faster processor from the regular HD 8 Kids Edition. You can get it for $69.99 this Prime Day, a $70 saving.
Fire HD 10 Kids Edition Tablet – The Fire HD 10 Kids Tablet gives you a full HD 1080p screen, a faster processor, and longer battery life than the other Kids Edition tablets. However, it’ll be just as hard-wearing, despite the larger size. This Prime Day, you can pick it up for $119.99, down from $199.99.
Fire HD 10 Kids Pro Edition Tablet – you’ll see a pattern emerging here. While the Kids Edition Pro 10-inch tablet is cheap, it’ll be even cheaper to snap up the non-kids version. Even so, the 10-inch Kids Edition is a great tablet, with good screen size and simple parental controls. Save $80 on this model, priced at $119.99.
