Nowadays it sometimes feels as if every second person you meet is some kind of mobile app developer or something along these lines. On the one hand, those who need some assistance in this sphere are spoiled for choice – there are companies and individual developers on every corner, brokering their services. On the other hand, finding a decent contractor among this multitude may be a tough job. So how does one go about it?
1. Use Your Network
You may say that you don’t have any web developers among your acquaintances. However, the old maxim that all people in the world are no more than six handshakes away from each other proves to be true more often than you can imagine. You may find a web developer or somebody who knows just the specialist you need by asking even those among your friends who seemingly don’t have anything to do with this area of expertise.
2. Look through a Directory
You may greatly simplify your task by addressing one of online directories listing companies doing jobs in the sphere you require. Some of them are general, some are more specialized, focusing on particular spheres like IT or SEO, but all of them are carefully categorized. As a result, it isn’t hard to find, for example, a list of the best mobile app development companies and look through it for firms that would satisfy you in terms of reputation and prices.
3. Local Colleges
It is an excellent way to look for specialists, especially if you are going to hire somebody long-term. Of course, if you are a small business owner you hardly have a chance of employing a specialist fresh out of Harvard, but most colleges, regardless of their prestige, will have a number of promising developers.
4. Freelance Resources
When all is said and done, there is probably no better way of finding a reasonably reliable app developer fairly quickly than going to a freelance resource like Elance or Upwork. Of course, if your app eventually succeeds in attracting attention to itself you will need a dedicated developer on your team to deal with new problems and updates, but the initial stages of work can be performed by freelancers without any hitch.
5. Ask the Right Questions
When you’ve found a developer that is seemingly alright for your current project, you should take a step back and ask him a couple of questions. What platforms did he develop so far? Can he prove it? Were his previous clients satisfied with the results? Can he put you in touch with them so that you can check it out? Is he going to cover updates and maintenance of the app?
It is impossible to find an ideal developer for every project, but you can at least do your best and try to do so. Far too many people call themselves app developers without having the necessary qualifications to fit the bill – keep these tips in mind to avoid them and find the right ones!
