1Password Adds Dark Mode, Biometrics to Web Extension

The popular password manager added support for Touch ID, Hello Windows, and even some Linux biometric functionality.

Your online security just got a bit more comprehensive, as popular password manager 1Password has launched a number of great updates — including dark mode and biometrics — to its web extension.

Online security has become a serious issue in recent years, and passwords are at the core of the issue. Considering they represent the first and strongest line of defense when it comes to security breaches and individual cyber attacks, having a good one can go a long way.

Fortunately, our top-rated password manager, 1Password, is making some improvements to its popular platform to make life a little easier for its many users.

1Password Dark Mode

In a company blog post, 1Password announced that it was seriously revamping its web extension by adding a number of upgrades, one of which is the highly sought after dark mode.

For those not in the know or that simply don’t use it, dark mode is popular with avid smartphone users, as it forgoes the excessively bright white background for a less intrusive black (or dark) background. This cuts down on blue light emissions, leading to better sleep quality and general improvements to mental health.

Fortunately, you won’t have to go through any complicated steps to get it set up either. As long as you have dark mode activated in your phone’s settings, and you have downloaded the most recent version of the 1Password web extension, your experience will be devoid of that pesky white background for good!

1Password Biometrics

Dark mode isn’t the only addition to the 1Password web extension though. For those that really want to take security seriously, the company has added support for biometrics, including Touch ID from Apple, Windows Hello, and even some Linux biometrics systems. And Andrew Beyer, Lead Browser Experience at 1Password, seems pretty excited about it in the post:

“Our #1 requested feature has been Touch ID & Windows Hello support. Now, if 1Password is locked and you have the desktop app installed, you can use biometric authentication to unlock faster than ever!”

Just a heads up, you will be required to download the desktop version of the 1Password app to enable biometric sign-in for 1Password. Still, this small obstacle shouldn’t get in the way of using this improved security measure to access your many passwords in an instant.
