I like to think of design as the soul of a website. The design is what draws us in, and hopefully makes us stay. I’m sure I’m not alone in this (in fact, if I were alone in this, then design wouldn’t be the enormous business that it is today).
Website design has come a long way in the last decade. These days its all about simplicity, elegance; not overwhelming the viewer with information, but rather taking them on a gentle, guided journey. There are a bunch of ways that this simplicity and elegance has started taking form and will continue to evolve for the foreseeable future.
As companies and designers become more intuitive towards what their audience craves, new design trends are emerging. You’ve probably already noticed some of them during your daily browsing. Things like flat design, background or full-screen videos on the homepage, and an increase in engaging storytelling through design.
The crew at Coastal Creative put together this (well designed) infographic of the newest design trends. It illustrates some of the trends that have been emerging over the last couple years, as well as what innovative, new strategies we can expect to see more of in the future.
Their predictions for the the top 8 design trends of 2016 are:
- The Rise of Flat Material Design
- Background & Fullscreen Videos
- Mobile Apps & Social Sites will Dominate
- Responsive Design with Better Performance
- Correct Typography: Fit the Theme
- Increased Minimalism: Stripping it Back
- Storytelling: Designing Personality
- Card-Based Interface Design
The infographic also provides us with some great blog posts on design. However, you can find plenty of great design tips here.
