A Beginner’s Guide to Google’s SEO Guidelines

If you have done much research about search engine optimization, you have probably heard that not following the Google SEO guidelines is a good way to have your site removed from the index or to have it penalized. Therefore, you probably recognize the importance of following these guidelines to the letter. Although there are a few different things that you should pay attention to, these are the main Google SEO guidelines to make sure that you follow.

Create Good Content

In the past, a lot of people used spinning software or simply didn’t take their time when creating content for their websites. A few years ago, it was possible for a site to rank really high on the search engine rankings even if it didn’t have good content as long as the keywords were used in the right places, but this is no longer the case. Google search engine spiders can tell if your site is filled with garbage content, and your readers won’t like it, either. Therefore, it is essential to make sure that all of the articles, blog posts and other written content that is posted on your website is high-quality. If you don’t have the skills or time to dedicate to writing good content, you should consider hiring a professional writer to do it for you; there are quite a few online resources that make it easy to have your content written for you for a good price.

Don’t Flood Your Site with Keywords

Using keywords is essential if you want your site to pop up in the search engine listings when people type in a specific keyword, but you shouldn’t go crazy with it. Instead of stuffing your content with as many keywords as possible, use one or two good keywords and use them carefully. The search engine spiders will still pick up on the keyword usage, and you won’t have to worry about being penalized for using the keywords too many times.

Don’t Spam

Spamming blogs, forums and more with your website’s link is a great way to be penalized by Google, so don’t do it. If you do choose to leave your link on these pages, make sure that you accompany the link by a helpful and well-thought-out response, and don’t link to your site on less-than-reputable pages.

Build Backlinks Carefully

Building backlinks is a crucial way to ensure that your site succeeds on search engines, but it is important to do it carefully. Nowadays, Google will penalize you if your site is associated with less-than-reputable pages, so don’t just post your backlinks anywhere, and be careful about services that offer to build hundreds or thousands of backlinks for a low price. Instead, make sure that the backlinks that you build are reputable.

Get the Help That You Need

Although all of the Google SEO guidelines can seem a bit overwhelming, you should know that there are a lot of different resources that you can use. From using information and tools online to hiring a reputable SEO agency to help, you don’t have to go at this process alone.
