After a week of polling, Austin-based startup Hurricane Party came out on top of our 2011 Hottest Startup at SXSW poll. Though group texting/chat was a hot trend at SXSW 2011, it seems that the real battle was between geo-location services that help connect people either in real-life or anonymously. Hurricane Party and Localmind battled fiercely for the top spot.
In case these two products are new to you, Hurricane Party is a free, mobile application the helps you find friends, share, and create spontaneous parties. Seems fitting at SXSW, right? Meanwhile, Localmind is a free, mobile application that enables you to ask questions to people that check-in to various locations. I recommend you download both apps – it is not the last time you'll hear about either of them.
But overall, Hurricane Party took home the top honor in 2011. Check out the final poll results below.
