Not Using AI? Microsoft Has Developed a Platform That Can Tell

The platform is able to compare AI use both within companies, and against others.

Key Takeaways

  • Microsoft has introduced a new platform called Benchmarks that will allow managers to track AI use both internally and externally.
  • This includes being able to view the number of active Copilot users and adoption rates within specific 365 applications, providing a broad overview of how AI is being used within their companies.
  • The tool speaks to a wider push from companies to get employees using AI tools.

Microsoft are introducing a new feature to its analytics platform, Benchmarks, that will allow managers to monitor and track AI use amongst their teams.

The tool will also allow external comparison in which managers can monitor their AI use with those who are in a similar industry.

While some reports have suggested enterprise AI adoption might be leveling off, the tech is still very much part of the future. This new platform ultimately demonstrates the strong AI push in progress within the corporate world.

Microsoft Introduces New Copilot Adoption Benchmarks

Microsoft is introducing Copilot adoption benchmarks, which will allow managers to track and compare how teams are using its flagship AI tool.

The new feature is called Benchmarks, and it will be directly integrated into the Microsoft Copilot dashboard within Viva Insights, the company’s analytics platform.

Viva Insights already tracks employee activities and allows managers to compare performances. The corresponding Copilot tool will be rolled out to customers at the end of October.

How Does the New Platform Work?

Using Benchmarks, managers can compare AI use both internally and externally. Internally, they can compare different “cohorts” within their organization, and based on categories that include job function and geographic region.

They’ll also be able to see the number of active Copilot users and adoption rates within specific 365 applications, for example.

Externally, managers can compare the adoption rate of their organization against other anonymized ones, who are also operating within their industry. Companies can also see their metrics on “Top 10%” or “Top 25%” lists of similar businesses.

According to Microsoft, the tool’s insights “help adoption trends and provide broader context and new opportunities to improve Copilot engagement.”

New Platform Demonstrates Strong Push for AI Adoption

Companies have no doubt been eager to see AI integrated into the workplace. Adoption can be expensive, particularly at an enterprise level, and so tools such as Benchmarks can help companies make sure they are getting their money’s worth.

Similarly, the new platform also suggests the strong push towards AI adoption. In some cases, this can be on an extreme level, like when Coinbase CEO Brian Armstrong fired employees who didn’t onboard onto company AI systems after a week.

According to our 2025 Impact of Technology on the Workplace report, only 15% of businesses said they hadn’t used AI at all, compared to 34% in the past year. Certainly, AI use is rising, but only time will tell how much this will benefit businesses in the long run.
