Move over Pokémon Go, this new augmented reality app is the next step in the world of online mobile gaming and it comes with prizes.

London-based Snatch is the latest augmented reality and geo-location virtual treasure hunt gaming platform with real-life environments and obstacles and that allow players to find cash prizes and products from big brands.

The Treasure Hunt

Players, referred to as Snatchers, seek out and snatch virtual parcels hidden around their community and once they are opened, they will connect to actual real prizes from top brands they can redeem. But there’s a twist…

While a player might think their parcel is safe and secure, the gaming aspect kicks in and other Snatchers have the opportunity to steal the parcel.

Snatchers have to be ready to defend their parcel via smartphone with a variety of virtual weapons such as an invisibility cloak or check in to a safe house to avoid the other snatchers that might have your parcel in their crosshairs.

As part of the their revenue stream strategy, players have the option to purchase additional virtual weapons to help defend their parcels.

Big Brands On Board

Snatch was founded by Joe Martin, and incubated at the London-based E-Man Labs Startup Studio. The company is now rapidly building out its own in-house team as they scale. Snatch has already become the hottest gaming app in the UK, hitting number one in the Apple Store to date, has nearly 100,000 active players and acquiring thousands each day.

Snatch has caught the eye of predominant investor groups such as Unilever Ventures who has backed the company for an undisclosed amount.

“Immersing people in an interactive environment where they’re actively seeking out products and feeling the elation of winning something tangible, is a really exciting addition to the marketing toolkit — we’re keen to be part of it,” said Jan Harley, director at Unilever Ventures said in an article by NetImperative.

Big brands such as Amazon, Top Shop and Pizza Hut have also taken interest in the AR game and are looking to place their brand’s parcels in the mix.

Debuting at SXSW

Snatch will be debuting at SXSW 2017 where attendees will have an exclusive preview ahead of the US launch anticipated roll out in the coming months. Matt Hagger, cofounder of E-Man Labs incubator, who helped get Snatch established in the US, is excited for the response of SXSW attendees.

“Having attended SXSW six times already and seen various products, trend, such as Twitter and Foursquare, I genuinely believe that 2017 is the year of active gaming and I could not be more excited to experience the reaction to Snatch, at the festival,” Hagger said. “The success of the product in the UK has been phenomenal and I’m confident the team will follow suit in the US,” Hagger said.

SXSW participants can sign up here to play then download the game on Apple or Google Play store at the festival. If you are over in the UK, you can start playing now.
