Looking to create a wave of successful exits, Starters Group, hosted a kickoff event this week in downtown Las Vegas. Starters Group is a startup accelerator based in Las Vegas looking to systematically create startup exits as a way to help foster a longer term success story for the Vegas Tech startup community. Led by startup entrepreneur, David Gosse and Dan Steele, the two have rallied together a group who will mentor and fund tech startups in the greater Las Vegas area. The accelerator is seeking twenty investors to raise $700,000 in seed money with the goal of seed funding five startups in the first year. While the program is just getting started, the goal is similar to many other startup accelerators around the country as it looks to address the three burning needs – access to capital, mentors and talent.
The kickoff attracted a number of entrepreneurs and investors (one even arrived in their orange Lamborghini) – notables included Steve Mack, the owner of the Las Vegas 51s minor league baseball team, Dominic Marrocco, entrepreneur in residence at UNLV, and Konrad Musial, CEO of Extensoft, among others. John Smith from the Las Vegas Review Journal was also on hand and covered the play-by-play.
