We hear about plenty of tech companies that have fun perks and give off the impression that they are a fun place to work. For some of them that’s probably the case, for others its probably just a facade to lure recent grads with the promise of kegerators, cereal bars and foosball tables. A ranking of the best places to work in technology recently came out as a joint effort between FORTUNE and Great Place To Work.
Ultimate Software, a provider of human capital management (HCM) solutions in the cloud, came out on top as it was named the #1 Best Large Workplace in Technology.
Great Place to Work used its Trust Index Employee Survey for ranking the best places in technology to work. The survey had employees answer questions about how what makes for a great workplace, such as opportunities for career development, risk-taking, work-life balance, financial and non-financial rewards, transparency in its communications to employees, business vision, and workplace camaraderie. All of the companies that were surveyed were ones that identified themselves as part of the tech industry and evaluated by Great Place to Work.
The companies with the highest survey results were then divided into small, medium, and large companies. Ultimate Software was at the top of the list for large companies, but more well known companies such as Yelp and Google also cracked the top ten.
The top three in the small company category were Academic Works, Inc., Square Root, and Squirrels, while the top three spots in the medium company category went to xMatters, HubSpot, and Bounce Exchange.
In an interview with Business Wire, Ultimate Software CEO Scott Scherr had this to say:
“For more than 25 years, we’ve focused on developing a positive and productive culture that’s built on trust and teamwork—one where the core principle has always been putting our employees first. In the high-tech sector, it is especially crucial to build an environment that promotes innovation at a rapid pace—and we are honored to be in the company of other technology businesses that have accomplished this, while also understanding the equivalent importance of respect, appreciation, camaraderie, and philanthropy. There is nothing more rewarding than being named #1 on a list of great places to work that is based completely on our own employees’ input.”
