Zoom, the incredibly popular video chat tool, has been named Apple’s most downloaded app of 2020, and no one is even remotely surprised.
While many of us would love to forget this year entirely, 2020 has brought upon some notable victories for a select few companies. From face mask manufacturers to toilet paper producers, the coronavirus pandemic has spurred some unexpected success stories across the business landscape.
However, no business has benefited more from stay-at-home orders and remote work policies than Zoom, the video conferencing app that took the world by storm in March.
Zoom: the Most Downloaded App of 2020
If you’ve been living under a rock for the last nine months, Zoom is a sleek, intuitive video conferencing tool that, prior to March 2020, was largely used by businesses to hold video meetings with employees. However, as soon as the reality of the global pandemic set in, everyday people around the world flocked to whatever digital communication tool they could find, and most of them found Zoom.
Since then, Zoom has seen a truly unprecedented rise in users and revenue, boasting up to four times the revenue compared to last year and more than 300 million meeting participants per day. While competitors like Google Meet and GoToMeeting continue to add features to try to catch up, the reality is that Zoom won the battle of attention at the beginning of the pandemic, and it doesn’t appear to be giving it up any time soon.
To add to the video chat app’s legacy, Zoom has now been announced as the most downloaded app in the App Store, for iPhone and iPad users, a truly impressive 1-2 punch for any app, let alone one that was relatively unknown just a year ago. While exact download numbers are unavailable, you can be sure that Zoom likely surpassed some of the list’s previous winners, given the state of the world today.
