Two of the biggest brands in the VPN world are NordVPN and ExpressVPN. We think NordVPN is better than ExpressVPN, as it comes out on top in our head-to-head assessments – but they're both strong choices.
One of the main reasons we'd recommend NordVPN over ExpressVPN is the sheer price difference. While ExpressVPN costs around $8 per month on its cheapest plan, NordVPN's regular discounts and deals can cut it down to just $3.71 per month.
If you're concerned about your online privacy – and in this world of data-snooping, hacks and breaches, you should be – then a VPN (Virtual Private Network) is essential. By masking your activities online, your personal data and your computer are considerably safer against hackers and snoopers.
Either NordVPN or ExpressVPN would be a great choice for a personal VPN to protect your internet privacy. Read on to find out why we rate NordVPN that little bit better, plus learn which one is best for you.

ExpressVPN vs NordVPN for Business
There's no denying the value of a good VPN for your business. With security breaches becoming an ever-present threat and hybrid work becoming the standard for business around the world, a VPN can provide you and your employees with the security you need to actually conduct business, in and out of a pandemic.
Luckily, NordVPN and ExpressVPN are good options for any business looking to bolster their security. Here's how they match up against each other:
- NordVPN Teams has more business features than ExpressVPN
- ExpressVPN is more affordable than NordVPN Teams
- NordVPN Teams has better support than ExpressVPN
- NordVPN Teams has an admin control panel, ExpressVPN doesn't
Honestly, this one isn't a close matchup, with NordVPN Teams being a clearly better option for businesses than ExpressVPN. For one, ExpressVPN doesn't offer a dedicated business-facing option, whereas NordVPN Teams is specifically design to secure your team. It has per user pricing, admin control panel, and added layers of security like two-factor authentication to make sure your company data stays safe.
NordVPN Teams Pricing
NordVPN Teams offers three different business-facing pricing plans. The first is the Basic plan, which costs $7 per user per month. It offers plenty of business features, like a control panel, centralized billing, kill switch, two-factor authentication, and standard 24/7 customer support.
NordVPN Teams also has an Advanced plan, which costs $9 per user per month, and adds the ability to pay for dedicated servers ($40 per month), as well as more than twenty additional server locations. You'll also get priority support and access to a dedicated account manager for your team.
NordVPN Teams does have an Enterprise plan, as well, but the pricing is not publicly available. You'll have to contact sales for specific information for your team. It adds a lot though, with API access, active directory, premium customer features, and branding capabilities.
ExpressVPN for Business Pricing
ExpressVPN does not provide dedicated business-facing pricing plans. Instead, the provider simply boasts about the value of its standard VPN that can be used for businesses.

NordVPN’s service lets users add up to six devices through one subscription. Those devices can include:
- Windows — covers Windows 10, 8, 7, Vista, and XP
- iOS — both for iPhone and for iPad
- Android TV
The list actually continues on with a wider variety of supported platforms that includes Raspberry Pi and Blackberry. A tutorial and further information for each platform’s app is available on NordVPN’s website.
One ExpressVPN subscription will get its user support for five devices. That is to say, any number of devices can have an ExpressVPN app installed on them, but only five of them can be used at any given time.
Here are the platforms that can support an ExpressVPN app, or in the case of browsers like Chrome and Firefox, an ExpressVPN browser extension:
- Windows — covers Windows 10, 8, and 7, but not Vista and XP
- Android — covers Android 10 through 5
- iOS — both for iPhone and for iPad
- Kindle Fire
- Consoles — covers Playstation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch
- Smart TVs — covers Apple TV, Amazon Fire, and Samsung
ExpressVPN includes unlimited bandwidth and strong customer support for all its apps. Their app selection is tough to beat, although, again, both ExpressVPN and NordVPN are more than likely to fully support any platform the average user will need.
NordVPN costs $3.71 per month when users buy a full two years at once, while ExpressVPN costs $8.32 per month when paid annually. This makes NordVPN twice as cheap (assuming you’re willing to commit to two years).
In terms of value for money, we'd argue that you certainly get a lot of bang for your buck with ExpressVPN – this is a fully featured, secure and well-designed VPN with everything a more technically-minded user could hope for. But, for entry-level VPN users who won't need all the extra settings, we'd have to recommend the great value of NordVPN every time.
For anyone looking for a well-rounded VPN with a good suite of features, either ExpressVPN or NordVPN are excellent choices.
However, we rate NordVPN highest, thanks to its uncompromising download speeds, robust privacy features and simplicity to use. It's also stuffed full of brilliant features, aimed to make your VPN experience as flexible as you'd like.
ExpressVPN is a worthy runner up, and while it has a good suite of features, it lacks the raw speed of NordVPN, and isn't quite as an attractive value for money proposition.

However, we rate NordVPN as the best VPN, and at half the cost of ExpressVPN, it sells itself.
