This afternoon, iStrategyLabs founder and CEO Corbett posted a Mashable article about Facebook’s Mentions Box device that Facebook plans to use on the red carpet at Monday’s Emmy Awards. It seems, however, that Facebook was not actually the ones in charge of creating the device; rather, it comes straight from no other than the brilliant minds over at iSL. According to Corbett’s Facebook post: “The cat is out of the bag on our latest invention!”
The Facebook Mention Box was created to allow celebrities on the red carpet to provide an interactive video response to fans’ questions. Access Hollywood will have exclusive access to the device for Monday’s red carpet, and questions can be submitted through their website. Once in the hands of celebrities, they simply shake the device to receive a fans’ question, then they record a video response right on the device, which can then be posted on Facebook.
“We’ve been working with Facebook’s public content team on creative solutions for bridging the gap between fan and celebrity, specifically at live events,” says iStrategyLabs CMO and Managing Director DJ Saul. “After many discussions, brainstorms, and rapid prototyping efforts for how to best represent the Facebook platform in physical space, we landed on something between a Magic 8Ball in function and an Etch-A-Sketch in form. It’s been an amazing project, and a ton of fun to work on.”
The DC-based digital agency has celebrated many successes of late. Just yesterday, the company’s move to the former Wonder Bread factory in Shaw was highlighted in the The Wall Street Journal. Last month, the company was named this year’s Small Agency of the Year by Ad Age (which shouldn’t be surprising considering the quality of clients it has picked up and the creative work they’ve produced), and even began operations in New York City.
