A thing that’s great: binge watching episodes of The Gilmore Girls on Netflix. A thing that’s even better: doing said Netflix watching whilst openly refusing to read through the Chinese language review book I bought for myself months ago. A thing that’s terrible: both things do not, at all, benefit the development of my productivity skills (unsurprisingly).

For 2015, I want to my productivity skills in order to, you know, become a more successful person or whatever – and I’m sure you all desire the same. The problem, though, is that we’re persistently wasting our time on the stupidest things, oftentimes outweighing the short-term benefits (e.g. pleasure from watching Rory Gilmore crush Dean’s heart) over the long-term ones (e.g. increasing fluency in Mandarin). There are certain things that we do in our everyday lives – whether that’s at work or at home – that can negatively impact the way the rest of our day (or year) turns out.

From hour-long meetings that lead to nowhere, to simply not listening to others, there are many things in our lives for which we have control that – if we truly were invested in improving ourselves – we can easily change, alter or completely avoid. To become more successful in 2015, consider removing these 15 time wasters from your life:
