A games console can make a brilliant Christmas present, or just a nice treat for yourself. The good news is that Black Friday is probably the best time of year to pick up a new Xbox, PlayStation or Switch.
If your main question is ‘Which one can I play Fortnite on?’, then don’t worry – the online shooter of the moment is available on every platform.
You can expect some serious price drops across all of Sony, Microsoft and Nintendo’s consoles. Some deals are coming through already, but our advice is to hold fire until Black Friday week itself to get the best deals possible.
We’ll keep this guide updated as new deals come through, so watch this space for great savings.
Best Black Friday PS4 Pro Deals
Sony’s PlayStation 4 received an upgrade with the PS4 Pro, a 4K capable console with upgraded hardware. If you want your PlayStation games to run smoothly and look as good as possible, then you’ll want a PlayStation 4 Pro.
Although it’s the most expensive PlayStation 4, Black Friday is a great time to buy, as you can expect deep discounts on the console. If you want a PlayStation 4 but are working to a budget, opt for the standard model – all the games are compatible for both models, so you’re not missing out on modern classics like Uncharted or Spider-Man.

Best Black Friday PS4 Slim Deals
The PlayStation 4 is the best selling games console of this generation, beating the Xbox One and the Nintendo Switch by some distance. This is thanks to a wide library of exclusive games, like God of War and Horizon: Zero Dawn, as well as updates to classics such as the Wipeout series.
The good news is that as the PlayStation 4 originally released in 2014, it’s already seen some decent discounts, and with Black Friday, you can expect some even better deals than usual. You’ll find that the cheapest models come with the smallest hard drive, which has a capacity of 500 GB. You’ll pay more of a premium for the 1 TB model.

Best Black Friday PlayStation VR Deals
Sony is the only console manufacturer that currently provides a VR experience, thanks to its PlayStation VR headset. One thing to know before you buy is that you’ll need a PlayStation 4 console to use it with. There are also a few peripherals you’ll need too, such as a PlayStation camera, and although not essential, the Move controllers can make for a more immersive experience.
All of this can add up, so look for bundles which include these if possible. In terms of software, there are hundreds of VR games available on PlayStation’s digital store, but pick the right package and you’ll get some included with your headset. Recently released platformer Astrobot is considered one of the highlights of the system.

Best Black Friday Xbox One Deals
Microsoft’s Xbox One is a powerful console that may not be as popular as the PlayStation 4, but still has a devoted fanbase. One advantage it has over other consoles is the wide range of backwards compatible titles from the Xbox 360 and original Xbox, making it a great buy if you already have a large library of older Xbox games.
In terms of games, Xbox exclusives include the Halo series, the popular Forza racing games, and online multiplayer pirate ’em up, Sea of Thieves. If you’re after games, it’s also worth picking up the Xbox Games Pass, an online subscription service which gives you access to a library containing hundreds of games for $10 a month.
