The Herndon, VA based APX Labs today announced that they have successfully raised $10 million of Series A funding led by New Enterprise Associates (NEA). To date APX has raised a total of $15.8 million for their software platform, Skylight, which enables large enterprises to create custom apps for smart glass and smart watch devices.
In addition to the funding announcement, Peter Barris, Managing General Partner at NEA, and Dayna Grayson, NEA Partner, will join APX Labs’ board of directors. APX Labs will also roll out the general availability of their Skylight 2.0 platform.
“Smart glasses and augmented reality-enabled workers are no longer relegated to pie-in-the-sky visions of the future,” says Brian Ballard, CEO of APX Labs. “We now have the technology and the enterprise partners to get our technology into the field in a big way. Large organizations are making strides with impactful deployments, and we haven’t even scratched the surface of what is possible with Skylight in the enterprise.”
The Skylight software presents users with an overlay of information in their field of view and already works with smart glass technologies like Google Glass and Epson Moverio. Skylight 2.0 includes an upgrade to the functionality for the client, server, and dashboard via new telestration, beacon, and radar features.
Telestration provides immediate and contextual feedback from a remote supervisor to help employees in their work. The beacon function guides workers towards specific locations or objects. And the radar widget shows the location of important points relative to the user.
“Without a doubt, APX Labs is going to reshape the enterprise software industry for wearable tech,” says Barris. “They have a great product and a great team, which is hitting its stride as industries begin to see the value APX Labs creates.”
