20 Cities You Want to Move to for Work This Year

Moving for a job used to be a huge decision. Between finding a new house, figuring out your commute, and deciphering the new television stations, relocation used to be a terrible ordeal. But now, primarily thanks to the internet, the burden has been lifted, as real estate websites, Google Maps, and Netflix have made the transition a little easier for those involved.

However, just because relocating is easier now, doesn’t mean new employees are willing to pack up and move anywhere. In fact, according to data from ZipRecruiter, there are a few places that are really piquing the interest of potential employees around the world. And the tops cities on the list will… not surprise you even a little bit.

ZipRecruiter found that most employees are most willing to move to New York or Los Angeles, a fairly standard point of view considering their respective statuses as the tech hubs of the nation. Silicon Alley and Silicon Beach are both on the higher end of the spectrum when it come to median salary, which will hopefully make up for the outrageous cost of these two cities.

A few key takeaways from the data is that, of the top relocation destinations, seven were in the South, six were in the West, six were in the Northeast, and one was in the Midwest (it was Chicago). Apparently people only want to move to cold weather cities if they’ve got a big slice of deep dish pizza to keep you warm. Well, that and the third highest opportunity index in the top 20, barely losing out to Denver and Boston.

If you want to see where people are interested in moving, make sure to check out the rest of the list below and visit the full report from ZipRecruiter here.
