Innovations in technology have made the job market considerably more difficult for employees lacking a familiarity with modern day skills. Everything from computer science experience to social media prowess have become sought after skill sets that make employers drool. And fortunately for you, there are some countries that are dying to hire qualified candidates that can handle their modern work load.

According to a recent report from the Organization for Economic Cooperation and Development, there are 15 countries with notable shortages in qualified employees for their modernized businesses. As the data shows, Japan is by far the most troublesome when it comes to their lack of suitable candidates for technology-focused careers. Even the US boasts 41 percent of firms (with 10 or more employees) have difficulty finding qualified employees.

As the report states, these numbers are not surprising or uncommon among more modern countries. Due to the exponential growth of technology in recent years, the employees of these countries are having a difficult time keeping up. And while some think they can handle the extra work load, others aren’t so sure.

“Skill mismatches and shortages are common in advanced economics,” states the report. “Many workers believe they have the skills to cope with more demanding work while some think they need more training to cope well with duties.”

The report also mentioned that the only way to solve this problem is by investing in these skill sets. While spending more resources to solve the problem isn’t always the most attractive option, it is undeniably the most effective way to help employees bridge the gap between their skill set and the modern technologies of today.

There is no easy fix for the future. You can’t purchase new software and expect that to be the end of the road. If you want to be successful, you need a team that can handle the workload of the future.
