For many avid readers, Amazon's lineup of Kindles are essential pieces of hardware, allowing them to carry thousands of books while on the move.
If you've been holding off getting a Kindle and waiting for a sale, then now's the time to bite, with the standard Kindle, and waterproof Paperwhite Kindle both being offered at a substantial discount this Black Friday. If you want to impress your fellow readers with the ultimate Kindle, the rather premium Oasis model, then bad luck, as it's not currently included in the Black Friday deals, and retains its hefty $250 asking price.
Amazon has a range of Kindles aimed at different types of readers. We guide you through the right models to buy, and the prices you can expect to pay.
The Kindle Paperwhite gives readers a helping hand in the dark, with an integrated backlight. This means that you can happily read into the small hours in bed without disturbing your partner. It's also a nice feature in low light, for those moments when the sun has called it a day but you haven't. While the standard Kindle also has a light, the back lit display of the Paperwhite is much more pleasing to the eye than the front facing light of the Kindle.
Probably the biggest upgrade you get with the Paperwhite is that it's waterproof, making it a great option for when you want to soak up the rays by the pool, or just absorb a good book in the bath.
This Black Friday, Amazon are offering a 35% saving on the Paperwhite, marking it down from $129.99 to $84.99, available now.

Amazon's entry-level Kindle may not have the bells and whistles of the Paperwhite or the Oasis, but it's still an excellent ebook reader, and the price is very attractive given its ability to store thousands of books.
It's front lit rather than back lit, and it's not waterproof, but that's not to say it isn't without some cool little features. If you would rather have the book read to you, then the Kindle's Bluetooth ability lets you do exactly that.
This is a good Kindle for those who haven't picked up an eBook reader before and are looking to jump in, especially with its Black Friday price tag of $59.99, down from $89.99, available now.
The Kindle Oasis is the top-end Amazon ebook reader. It has a larger screen than the Kindle and Paperwhite, boasting a 7-inch, 300 ppi display compared to their 6-inch. It also has a staggering 25 LED lights, making for a notably brighter screen.
It's big selling point used to be the fact that it was waterproof, but these days the Paperwhite has slightly stolen its thunder, boasting this feature for a much smaller price tag.
The Oasis is the last Kindle to still have physical buttons, so if turning the page using a touchscreen isn't for you, you may prefer the more traditional buttons of the Oasis. It also self orientates the page, meaning your book will right itself no matter which way you hold the Oasis.
Otherwise though, there's little to recommend the Oasis over the considerably cheaper Paperwhite, especially as Amazon aren't discounting the Oasis this Black Friday.
Amazon Unlimited is a subscription service that gives you access to over a million ebooks for one monthly cost. Its essentially like a literary version of Netflix.
For new customers, Amazon offers the service free for a month, to give you an idea of what's available.
The library is huge, and varied too. It's a good way to catch up with old favorites, such as the complete Harry Potter series, or discover brand new trending authors. A subscription also grants you access to current issues of popular magazines, such as Good Housekeeping.
All told, it's worth $10 a month. Throw in a month for free, and it's an outright steal. This Black Friday, Amazon are offering 6 months of the service for $29.97, down from the usual $59.94.

For many avid readers, Amazon's lineup of Kindles are essential pieces of hardware, allowing them to carry thousands of books while on the move.
If you're expecting to snap up a bargain Kindle this Black Friday, then you might be disappointed – it appears Amazon has only reduced one model, and that's last year's Kindle Paperwhite. However, they're still the best ebook readers out there, so don't let a lack of savings discourage you from picking one up. For real bookworms, there's also a discount on Kindle Unlimited.
Amazon has a range of Kindles aimed at different types of readers. We guide you through the right models to buy, and the prices you can expect to pay.
The Kindle Paperwhite gives readers a helping hand in the dark, with an integrated backlight that the standard Kindle is lacking. This means that you can happily read into the small hours in bed without disturbing your partner. It's also a nice feature in low light, for those moments when the sun has called it a day but you haven't.
The most recent model is also waterproof, making it a great option for when you want to soak up the rays by the pool, or just absorb a good book in the bath.
While Amazon doesn't appear to be reducing the price of the 2018 model for Black Friday (perhaps not too surprising, given that it only came out last month), it is offering you a $40 discount on last year's Paperwhite. There's not much difference between the two – the older one simply isn't waterproof. If this isn't a concern for you, it's a great option.
