Imgur Embed Will Tell you Where I Found This Cute Puppy Photo

Imgur has been rolling out some epic new features over the last few months, and they’ve just announced yet another new innovation on their image viewing platform. Today Imgur announced a new embed unit designed to make it easy for publishers, bloggers, and journalists – like myself – to display content from Imgur on their respective sites while also including proper attribution. A new embed link appearing on Imgur posts will let publishers copy a line of code, paste it into their site, and have the content displayed.

“Imgur is home to some of the best visual content found anywhere on the Internet, and there’s a massive ecosystem of publishers who regularly post content from Imgur to their own sites,” says Chris Gallello, Product Manager at Imgur. “That said, it’s been an inconvenient process: publishers have had to download the content from Imgur, re-upload it to their own site, and then manually add in the attribution. With our new embed unit, they can easily do all of this by copying a single line of HTML and pasting it into their own site. The publisher gets to display the awesome content and the creator gets the proper attribution they deserve.”

The Imgur embed unit is available today and can be accessed through the ‘Post Options’ menu on every post shared publicly on Imgur.

“Making it simple to discover and share images is what we do here at Imgur, and we’re excited to be giving other publishers some great tools to help them do the same,” says Gallello. “The embed reflects the great feedback we’ve received and we think it really provides a simple and practical solution for making the stories on Imgur sharable everywhere.”

The embed unit was designed with input from both the Imgur community and publishers and there are a host of benefits provided:

  • Easy: Incorporating content from Imgur is a snap with a single line of HTML. The embed unit eliminates the old, inconvenient method of having to download the image, re-upload it and then manually add the attribution and other context.
  • Mobile friendly: The embed unit is responsive, so it will look great on any device.
  • Copyright friendly: Images displayed through the embed unit remain hosted on Imgur. Imgur enforces and maintains copyright compliance so the publisher doesn’t have to.

Here’s an example of what it will look like when you use the new Imgur embed unit. Note the attribution in the bottom left:
