“Anyone who doesn’t have a great time in San Francisco is pretty much dead to me. You go there as a snarky New Yorker thinking it’s politically correct, it’s crunchy granola, it’s vegetarian, and it surprises you every time. It’s a two-fisted drinking town, a carnivorous meat-eating town, it’s dirty and nasty and wonderful. Let me come right out and say it. I love San Francisco.” – Anthony Bourdain
In short, what Bourdain is saying here is actually every Californian's favorite colloquialism: West Coast Best Coast. While you might disagree with it (I'm looking at you East Coasters!), we can all agree that there is something magical about San Francisco, which is why we're bringing our Celebrate Startup Tour back to The Golden Gate City this summer.
On June 12, from 6:30 to 9:00 pm, we’ll be hosting our San Francisco Startup of the Year Competition & Mixer at Parisoma. Since January we’ve been touring the world, discovering the hottest startups in local tech ecosystems and giving them the opportunity to share their unique story with our fans and win prizes.
And since we'll be in San Francisco, widely hailed as one of the most robust tech ecosystems in the US, this is a callout for San Francisco startups. Every startup that wins one of our local pitch competition events will be cordially invited to pitch at our annual Celebrate Conference in Downtown Las Vegas from October 4 to 6.
There are two ways a startup can make it to Celebrate 2015 via our events:
- Reader’s Choice Poll: Tech.Co readers will have a chance to vote for their favorite regional startup, determined by an online poll. The poll will be live until 5PM EST the day of the event.
- Pitch Competition: Startups showcasing at the mixer and startup showcase will get to pitch for 60 seconds. Then, Tech Cocktail attendees will have a chance to vote for their favorite regional startups after all the 60-second pitches are complete.
Startups competing at Celebrate will have additional prize opportunities from various sponsors. If you're a consumer electronics startup, you are going to want to pay attention: CEA has promised to select one of the startups who demos at Celebrate for a trip to Las Vegas during CES 2016 and a booth at Eureka Park. Be sure to apply to present at your regional event in order to qualify to be at Celebrate!
In addition to the incendiary competition, we’re also excited to welcome a longtime friend of Tech.Co, Joel Trammell – CEO of Khorus, as our keynote speaker for the night. He’ll impart some of the wisdom gained through his 20 year entrepreneurial career, and he’s a riveting speaker.
