Facebook is diving firmly into the virtual reality field, with their latest company acquisition coming with the purchase of a virtual reality startup Two Big Ears.
News of the acquisition came earlier today, after Facebook announced the news on their blog page. They write:
“At Two Big Ears, we’ve been hard at work creating technology and tools that have defined how immersive audio is crafted and experienced in VR and AR both now and in the future. We’re proud to see the impact our work has had on so many great projects. Now, we’re ready to take the next step on our journey and scale our work from within Facebook… By joining with a company that shares our values and our vision, we will be able to scale our technology even quicker as we continue powering immersive audio experiences.
Our mission is to make VR audio succeed across all devices and platforms and continue to help creators make the best experiences for billions of people across the world.”
The post continues, stating that the two will focus on pipelining virtual and alternate reality products for consumers. They’re also continuing the development of class VR audio with the Oculus team.
This acquisition actually gives positive reinforcement to the social media’s presence within the virtual reality field. Big things are in the future for the VR field – especially for Facebook and Two Big Ears.
