Earth, while filled with beautiful oceans, stunning landscapes, and compassionate people, has its fair share of problems. From food shortages to health issues to sustainability concerns, there’s no denying that this planet isn’t perfect. Fortunately, National Geographic has decided that its time to do something about it.
Along with partner GSK Consumer Healthcare, National Geographic is introducing Chasing Genius, a global community that can help change the world. The community is designed to address the world’s pressing needs through premium programming, custom storytelling, and consumer engagement designed to inspire consumers to tap into their inner genius.
“You don’t need to be a research scientist to come up with the next big idea. At National Geographic, we believe transformational ideas can come from anyone,” said Brendan Ripp, executive vice president, brand partnerships of National Geographic. “Chasing Genius provides a platform for ‘everyday geniuses’ to share ideas, big and small, that can create real impact in the world.”
In addition to all that, National Geographic will also hold The Chasing Genius Challenge, a competition aimed at finding innovative ideas that address the world’s problems. The goal is to develop products for everyday people that will make the world a more sustainable and healthy place to live.
It wouldn’t be a competition without a prize, which is why National Geographic is shelling out $100,00 in total ($25,000 for each of the four winners) to reward these innovative ideas. The money will ideally be used to further the winning ideas, so that saving the world becomes more of a community effort.
“Through the Chasing Genius Challenge, we are excited to combine the power and reach of National Geographic and GSK to provide budding geniuses with a platform to explore their curiosities, share their ideas and turn those ideas into catalysts for global change,” said Theresa Agnew, chief marketing officer U.S. at GSK Consumer Healthcare. “Problems around the world — big and small, global and local — can be solved with a single idea from scientists and researchers like us, as well as everyday geniuses like you. And together, our ideas can save lives and change everything.”
