The importance of finding funding as a startup cannot be understated. While a driven team, quality product, and connected founder can get your company off the ground, capital is the only way to go from small startup to big business. Fortunately, there is no shortage of venture capital firms looking to invest huge sums into high-potential companies around the country. But where can they be found?

CB Insights was tired of the debates and arguments about the answer to this question. They decided to compile a comprehensive list of the most active VC firms in each state based on the number of tech companies they have funded in that state between 2011 and 2016.

As far as the results are concerned, the top venture capital firms are taking their pick when it comes to the largest markets. For instance, General Catalyst was the most active investor in Massachusetts tech startups. With Boston becoming one of the most prolific startup ecosystems in the country, this move is bringing in big bucks for everyone involved. Only one venture capital firm, New Mexico-based Flywheel Ventures, was the most active in two separate states (New Mexico and Montana), while Alaska and North Dakota were woefully left off the list.

Check out each states most active venture capital firm below to get a clearer picture of the funding situation in your home state.
