Being the Chief Technology Officer of any company can be pretty stressful. With all the tech advancements and gadget-based improvements of the world today, being in charge of technology can feel like a never-ending fight against hackers. And if you thought it was hard doing it for a small startup, imagine what it’s like to be the CTO for the Office of the Chief Information Officer at the Department of Homeland Security.

Michael Hermus does just that. In this prestigious role, Hermus integrates the President’s national security, innovation, and emerging technologies priorities with the DHS mission. In addition to that, he’s responsible for following future trends in the security realm of technology, preparing and protecting the department from any emergent security threats or weaknesses.

Based on his 20 years of experience, being a CTO is what Hermus was born to do. Prior to working with the Department of Homeland Security, Hermus worked as the CTO of a wide range of companies. From House Party, Inc. and FirstCarbon Solutions to Enverity Corp. and MarketXT, Inc., Hermus built his experience on the private sector before making the move to government.

Being a CTO breeds a breadth of knowledge in the business world. Whether it’s product development, design, or operations, Hermus has honed his skills to be the effective leader the CTO for the Office of the Chief Information Officer at the Department of Homeland Security needs to be.
