5 Actionable Social Media Tips for Startups

According to Rantic, over 78% of people who use the Internet are highly active on social media. This stat includes all demographics. This means that your followers, clients, customers, and prospective customers are paying attention to your activity, and that what you are doing matters. Many of the strategies that experts suggest for improving social media presence can take forever to implement. For many, that’s simply too long.

This is why we’ve compiled this list of 5 simple, but brilliant social media tips that you can start using today.

1. Stop Trying so Hard

Do you have a cringe worthy social media presence? No? Are you sure? It’s very easy to recognize when somebody else is trying too hard on social media, but it isn’t necessarily easy to see that in our own postings. Be aware of the following signs that you are trying too hard and likely annoying the daylights out of your followers.

  • Tagging people in order to generate likes
  • Hashtag abuse
  • Using the comments section for blatant self promotion
  • Overuse of exclamation points
  • Excessive capital letters
  • Gushy comments on other people’s posts

Better yet, use the tool linked above and put your content to the test.

2. Try a Social Media Scheduler

By using a social media scheduler you can save time by simply dedicating a few minutes each day to compose and schedule the messages you want released throughout the day. In addition to this, you can keep attention on announcements, events, and other newsworthy posts by using a scheduler to post reminders to social media.

Finally, by using a scheduler and dedicating a time each day to plan and schedule your social media communications, you’ll free up both time and brain space to focus on marketing and branding.

3. Think Twice about Followers

Don’t assume that a large number of followers means that you are garnering more likes and shares. Commit to focusing on quality content instead of boosting the number of people following you on social media. A smaller, loyal group of followers who loves your content might share your content more often than a large group who is mostly scrolling by your posts. You’ll also be able to engage more personally with your followers.

4. Include Your Call to Action when you Curate Content

Use Snip.ly when you share content to add your own call to action when you share links. You’ll give your followers a more manageable link to contend with, and they’ll see your call to action at the same time that they see the content you shared.

5. Reconsider the Placement of the Share Buttons on Your Website

This is simple and easy, and it’s easy to change back if the results are not desirable. Some companies have found that by simply moving their share buttons they increase the numbers of likes and shares that they receive. Oddly enough, a lot of bloggers have gotten great results by taking these buttons away all together.
