Elon Musk and his SpaceX team have done it again. Today Musk unveiled the first photo of the SpaceX spacesuit on his personal Instagram account. All we’ve got is the one photo to go by right now, but his message implies SpaceX will reveal more details soon on the spacesuit. In a post to Instagram Elon Musk said:

“First picture of SpaceX spacesuit. More in days to follow. Worth noting that this actually works (not a mockup). Already tested to double vacuum pressure. Was incredibly hard to balance esthetics and function. Easy to do either separately.”

SpaceX is planning to send a test uncrewed mission in February 2018. If all goes well, that would then be followed by a manned mission in collaboration with NASA later in 2018. This would make it the world’s first private company to send humans into space. Musk has also said SpaceX send a manned mission to the moon in 2018. Next, SpaceX will look to Mars with an unmanned mission in 2020, followed by a manned mission to Mars in 2026. That’s an aggressive schedule.

What do you think of the SpaceX Spacesuit?

I think the new SpaceX spacesuit looks sleek and amazing. It’s a lot less bulky than the moon suits that we’ve seen used by NASA so many times before. But we’ll let you be the judge of that. Let us know what you think of the first photo of the SpaceX Spacesuit the comments below.
