Foursquare’s Holiday Gift to You

Mobile geolocation service Foursquare has announced new functionality – the ability to post both photos and comment via the application.

Foursquare members, which the company says now top 5 million, can now post comments on their friends’ “check-ins,” as well as attach photos to the directory listings for places they visit and leave feedback.

From the Foursquare blog:

“A few of our partners have done an amazing job getting the new photos feature integrated for today. Photos from Instagram pushed to foursquare will now be check-ins with photos (rather than just check-ins). Sightings on Foodspotting will be check-ins with your food photos. And picplz is the first service to allow check-in photos on both iPhone and Android.”

Photos added to tips and venues are viewable by the public – those attached to check-ins will be shared only with Foursquare friends or networks that the user has allowed Foursquare to access.

The new application for Android will arrive later this week, and for BlackBerry in January. The API will be ready for all developers later this week.

Here’s the app in iTunes.
