Last August imoji not only celebrated the launch of their uniquely upbeat messaging platform, they also reveled in successfully fundraising $2 million in VC. The whole genesis of the platform came from the fact that the founders were bored with the limitations surrounding stock keyboards, emoji sets, and text messaging on smartphones.
Since launching, the app has about 3 million stickers and 1 million users worldwide who are turning their favorite selfies, animals, and celebrities into custom emojis. They can be texted to friends or posted to social media and are incredibly fun to use (speaking from personal experience on that one – yes, I use this app!).
They initially only developed the imoji platform for iOS, but they also built out an Android version – as well as iOS and Android imoji apps for Facebook Messenger. And then, a few weeks ago, they released a brand new version of the app that’s jam packed with features.
New on the updated app is a ‘Photoshop’ ability that boasts a very small learning curve. Users can take a photo with their camera, use an image from their library, or grab one from the web and add imojis directly to it.
“It’s like having Photoshop on your phone, but much easier and faster,” says the imoji team. “It only takes a couple of taps to create an imoji of your face on Kim K’s Paper Mag body or your own custom taco or unicorn imoji.”
You can also use your favorite imojis from your personal collection or search the database of existing imojis for use. The team also built in a feature that lets you save your imojis to your phone’s camera roll, which can then be easily shared across virtually any messaging platform or social network.
Like I mentioned before, it’s incredibly fun to use. Here’s one of the team’s favorite imojis that has me dying – “One Happy Family”:
