Just because the Smart Home trend is increasingly popular with big corporations and startups alike doesn’t mean that there isn’t still room for innovation. That’s why littleBits this week launched their Smart Home DIY kit to retrofit your home and bring any of your home and bring any household appliance into the 21st century.
The Smart Home Kit extends the power of the recently launched cloudBit, which lets users snap the internet to anything. Fueled by the goal of democratizing hardware into the home, littleBits has opened the floodgates of creativity for their users who want to retrofit their favorite lamp, build a smart device, or invent an entirely new concept.
The kit includes 14 Bits with five new modules: MP3 player, Threshold, Number, Temperature Sensor, and IR transmitter. It also includes 11 accessories, like the new AC switch, so you can start building your own smart home devices instantly.
Announced alongside the launch is the rollout of littleBits’ first national retail partnership. Over 2,000 RadioShack stores across the US will begin carrying and selling littleBits products.
The Smart Home Kit starts at $249 online. Before you balk at the price, make sure you check out the entire library of videos the littleBits team has uploaded to their YouTube channel.
