You know what’s better than watching Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives and how Guy Fieri enjoys the food at a certain restaurant? You enjoying the meal in that certain restaurant! That means you need to take out a pen and paper to write the name of the restaurant — put it in a safe place (if you have kids, table excluded) — so when you happen to be in that area you won’t miss it. Fortunately, there is an app for that — TVFoodMaps — and half a million users love it because it does what they need: it is a one-stop shop for restaurants seen on TV.
So, what makes over 500,000 monthly visitors come back each time and check the app or the website? It’s easy to explain: TVFoodMaps currently keeps 40+ different shows up to date — such as Diners, Drive-Ins & Dives, Man vs. Food, Top 5 Restaurants, Craziest Restaurants in America, Man Finds Food, and others.
You don’t need to be a registered user to get access to an abundance of information, but there are incentives to registering. For example, you can create reminders about places you want to visit, track places you’ve visited, and plan your trip, which obviously includes restaurants from your “try list.”
While the iOS app I tested isn’t optimized for iPhone 6, which affects the overall user experience, the huge database of information to which you get access when downloading the free app sometimes make you forget about the design.… Not always, but that’s about to change.
The good news is that the developers have been busy redesigning TVFoodMaps and adding additional features. The new, version 4.0 of TVFoodMaps will be available on Thursday June 25, and includes — besides design fixes — useful features such as road trip. You will be able to choose a starting point and destination to find the best restaurants for that specific trip.
Also, users will receive notifications based on cities, personal location, TV listings, and start creating lists based food, show, or cities.
Meanwhile you can download TVFoodMaps from the App Store or Google Play. But, be careful: you may be tempted only to eat the best food in your area! Pick your preferred food and start looking for the best restaurants, just like the other half million users do.
