Snapchat’s Announces ‘Real Life’ Digital Magazine

Snapchat is already dominating the social mediasphere, but now their current work is expanding to other aspects of digital media. News broke of the social media company looking to start a digital magazine focusing on technology.

The magazine, called Real Life, will start publishing on June 27th, focusing on cover beauty, power, privacy, and relationships, among other things. Snapchat employee and social media critic Nathan Jurgenson writes:

“Real Life will publish essays, arguments, and narratives about living with technology. It won’t be a news site with gadget reviews or industry gossip. It will be about how we live today and how our lives are mediated by devices… We aim to address the political uses of technology, including some of the worst practices both inside and outside the tech industry itself.”

So, while this won’t have any effects on the future and current progress of the platform, this also means good things for the company. While video content is on its way to dominating the social media industry, getting involved in text content now while users are still responsive to it will help the company grow overall. Especially with having Snapchat content further accessible on desktop devices, and not just mobile devices.
